Mother’s Day is, as you may have heard, coming up quickly. My friends at Starbucks and Life of Dad have put out the challenge to see who can wrangle his kids to show their mom just how awesome she is, and prove himself the real #LatteRomeo. And what better way than with breakfast in bed?
Last week I told you about a contest I was entering, where I was challenged to make a delicious March Madness snack using at least frozen food products. Well, tonight at the #FrozenChefMadness Twitter Party my entry was honored to be named as one of the #EliteAte, which means I am into the semi-finals! Soon they will announce the #FinalFour and then me, as the winner.
Okay, maybe I’m getting a little bit ahead of myself — some of the competition is pretty intimidating — but I am really proud of this dish, and I think you’ll love it if you try it.
So without further ado, the promised recipe!
Being a family of avid (well, enthusiastic, at least) gardeners, we’re no strangers to the problem of sometimes having way more fresh, ripe produce than we can use. Last year we had seven rather abundant tomato plants, for goodness sake. As a result, we have had to learn to preserve what we grow. That has definitely meant a lot of canning, and pickle-making, but for some foods my experience has led me to prefer one method over the rest: freezing.
December is here, and all of us have tons on our lists of things to do as we get ready for the holidays: decorating, planning menus, buying or making gifts, and of course trying to mentally prepare for time spent with that certain relative that is best handled in small doses.
But there is one other aspect of this time of year that is worth considering, especially if you have young kids running around, and that is home safety.
As the weather turns cold and homes heat up, so does the chance that your family could experience a home fire or carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. The National Fire Protection Association reports most home fires and CO poisonings occur in winter. Besides heating appliances, seasonal activities such as increased cooking, using candles and decorating Christmas trees all add to the risk.
Here’s a simply Winter Home Safety Quiz from Kidde that you can take now, to see how ready you are, and to highlight a few things you may not have considered. Included are some tips on how to implement.
I’ve had a lot of questions recently about the new addition to our family, ever since her subtle introduction in a post graphic a couple of weeks ago. Little did I know that people would wonder about who they were seeing, and I thought it was time to properly introduce her to the world.
We officially adopted N’elle (full birth name Cottonelle Care Routine) into our lives several weeks ago, when she was delivered smoothly via UPS, after the volunteering to give her a good home. It has been a whirlwind adventure ever since she uttered her first words: “Let’s talk about your bum!”
If your kids are like mine, they love building stuff. They’ll use blocks, boxes, buckets… heck, they even stack up chairs if I’m not watching. About the only thing they like more than building things up is knocking the whole thing down, like Godzilla on a rampage.
My friends at Crayola recently asked me if I’d like to give one of their new products a try with my kids, and then enter a fun video contest for my trouble (as well as getting to give something away to one of my readers. See below!). The product is the Create 2 Destroy Dino Destruction Metropolitan Mayhem set, one part of their new line of Create 2 Destroy products. And as two little boys who like destroying stuff AND dinosaurs, it fit right into my kids’ wheelhouse. How could I say no?
The assignment was simple: make a quick, fun Instagram video that tells the story of how milk with breakfast turns me into #SuperMilkMan! With the help of my lovely wife, we put together this fun little micro-film, co-starring my charming boys and a recently constructed Mega Bloks Skylanders robot (who frankly owes more than a little from his performance to the legendary Daleks), with a supporting role by some delicious brioche french toast, and featuring a cool glass of milk.
Don’t forget to join me and some other rad dads this Thursday for my first ever gig co-hosting a Twitter Party!
This is your chance to win one of five “The Rock – Milk Gift Packs” (valued at $98 each) and one Grand Prize of a 16GB iPad Mini Grand Prize (valued at $329)!
Please follow and join me, @ChrisRoutly, our hosts @LifeOfDadShow and @MilkMustache, along with my fellow co-hosts @TommyRiles, @CuteMonsterDad, and @DiaryDad this Thursday, August 15, at 12:00 noon EST.
Use the hashtag (you guessed it!) #SuperMilkMan!
No idea what a Twitter party is? No idea how you “attend” one? Here’s a great rundown of everything you need to know.
Disclaimer: I am being compensated Life of Dad, LLC for my participation as an Official Entrant in, and promotion of, the #SuperMilkMan Contest. Seriously, they are paying me to compete to meet The Rock. How cool is that?
I’m not exactly a coffee connoisseur, but sometimes I like to pretend I am.
You know, the guy who only buys his beans whole, then coarsely grinds just enough for a single pot at a time, brewed in a French press — of course! — to preserve the natural oils and what-not.
(Then I add a lot of flavored creamer, and lose all credibility.)
“The #SuperMilkMan Contest?” you ask. “What the heck is the #SuperMilkMan Contest?”
I’m so glad you asked!
My friends at Life of Dad and the Breakfast Project campaign are teaming up with The Rock — yes, THE The Rock — to hold an awesome contest, and I am one of the lucky few who have been invited to be a participant.
In the coming few days, with the help of my production crew (a.k.a. my 2 year old and my 4 year old) I will be creating a short video for submission, then posting it here, there, and everywhere. Watch for it soon, and when you see it please share! I could win a trip to hang out with The Rock in LA or NYC, and maybe — just maybe — he will share with me whatever he has been cooking all these years that smells so great.
In the meantime, this Thursday I am really excited for my first ever gig co-hosting a Twitter Party!

Who knows? Maybe The Rock himself will even show up.
Watch for my video soon! And in the meantime, here’s The Rock’s meager entry, from SuperBowl XVII:
